About

This blog is an attemp to describe the successes and failures of taking an iPad along for a month-long overseas holiday, to use it to amuse the kids on long train/plane trips, to use it to store hotel booking information, eBooks to read, maps, Travel Guides etc. Basically, can an iPad make the trip easier or more complicated, better or worse. More distracting than informing. What will the answer be?

Lets start at the beginning. We’re going on a trip, and this is going to sort of flow as I decide what needs to go along.

What this blog isn’t

This blog is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to taking your iDevice with you on holidays anywhere you might want to go. It is not intended to cover all ipad travel issues or places. The Wifi/3G infrastructure of the world is so diverse that that’s pretty much pointless anyway.

What this blog is

This blog is an attemp to describe the successes and failures of taking an iPad along for a month-long overseas holiday, to use it to amuse the kids on long train/plane trips, to use it to store hotel booking information, eBooks to read, maps, Travel Guides etc.

It’s also an attempt to document what it’s like to make an ipad a photo storage device for special “keeper” photos.

This trip, in the northen hemisphere winter, December/January 2010/2011 is specifically to Southern Germany. So I will be describing what we found the Wifi coverage to be like in our hotels, in local hotspots, whether we could buy a 3G microSIM (or not)

Stuff like that.
